In the name of GOD, Amen.
I Edward Smith of the
District of Spartanburgh & State of South Carolina, Planter, being blessed
with sound mind, memory and understanding, praise be God for the same, but
calling to mind that it is appointed for man once to die, do make this my
last will and Testament.
I recommend my soul to God
who gave it & my body to the dust from whence it came, to be decently
buried at the discretion of my executors hereinafter mentioned; And for
such worldly good as it hath pleased God to bless me with, after my just
debts and funeral charges are paid, I give and bequeath in manner and form
following
Viz.
Item - I lend to by beloved
wife Salley, dureing her natural life or widowhood, all my real & personal
property whatsoever, all which after her deceas to be given unto, by equal
distribution forever my Seven Children, Viz. Chs. Smith, Holman Smith, My
son in laws, John Lipscomb, David Lipscomb, Richard Simmons, Reuben Smith,
and John Willis to them and their Heirs forever, requesting my two sons to
be liberal to my three Daughters Betsy, Frances and Patsy, all which
property as above mentioned to be equally divided between my seven
Children to them forever except such as is hereafter mentioned.
Item - I give to my son in
law William Burton five Shillings
Item - I give to my son in
law Thos. Smith five Shillings
Item - I give to the heirs
of my son William Smith five Shillings
And I do nominate,
Constitute & appoint my Two sons Charles and Holman Smith executors of
this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I the above named
Edward Smith have hereunto set my hand & seal this seventeenth day of
April Eighteen hundred and fifteen, Signed Sealed and Published by the
above named Edward Smith as and for his last will and Testament in the
presence of us who at his request and in his presence have subscribed our
names as witness Thereto.
