JAMES E. FARMER
GOWANSVILLE, Sept. 10 - James E.
Farmer, 60, of Campobello, Route 2, died at a Spartanburg Hospital
at 9:40 o'clock tonight, after an illness of one month. Mr. Farmer
was born in upper Greenville County where he was known to his
friends as Bud Farmer.
He is survived by his wife, one
daughter, Mrs. Will Henson; two sons, Hoke Farmer and Ralph
Farmer; and one sister, Mrs. James Pruitt, all of Campobello,
Route 2.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced later.

ARTHUR
F. FEAGAN

Cherokee Springs, Dec. 21, 1939- The funeral services of ARTHUR F.
FEAGAN, 46, who was postmaster of the now non-existant post office
at Cherokee Springs, will be conducted at the Cherokee Springs
Baptist
church.
MR. FEAGAN had been connected with the Chesnee telephone exchange
the last eight years, died at his home in Cherokee Springs after a
long period of declining health.
He is survived by his wife, MRS. EDITH CROCKER FEAGAN; 5 daughters,
MRS. STEAD PRUITT, Chesnee and MISSES IRIS FEAGAN, KATHLEEN, BETTY,
and GWENDOLYN FEAGAN, all of Cherokee Springs; 2 grandaughters,
CARROL and ARTHUR FEAGAN; his parents, the REV. and MRS. GEORGE R.
FEAGAN, of Gaffney and one sister, MRS. SIMPSON C. LEDFORD also
of Gaffney.
Active pallbearers; JOE HILL CANTRELL, RALPH THOMPSON, JESSE WIRE,
ROY SETSLER, JOE W. WARREN, H.W. ASKINS.

DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN
MR. C.M. FERGUSON, " Uncle Mad ", as he was familiarly called, an
aged man highly-respected citizen of Clinton, died at his home on
the night of the 15th inst. Aged 84 years. He was an exemplary
member of the Methodist Church, a devoted Mason and was buried with
Masonic honors.

MRS. HETTIE FIELDER died at her home at Moore's, Spartanburg County,
on the 27th inst. MRS. FIELDER was formerly MISS HETTIE LAKE of
Newberry and will be pleasantly remembered by many of our citizens
as one of the sweet and gentle pupils and graduates of the
Laurensville Female College, some years since, and subsequently as a
young lady of charming beauty of both face and form. She was the
sister of our townsman, MR. THOMAS LAKE, to whom , as to other
relatives and friends of the deceased, the sympathies of the
community go out in their great sorrow.

DIED , at Anderson Court House, on the 14th inst. MRS. MISSOURI
FINLEY, wife of MR. DANIEL G. FINLEY, in the 43rd year of her age.
The deceased was a native of Spartanburg District, where most of
her life was spent and where she was highly esteemed for the many
excellent qualities that adorned her character. More than two years
since she removed with her husband and family to Anderson village
and had, in that time, endeared herself to all who knew her...but
the Lord has seen fit in His Providence to remove her to a better
world, and they should not murmur, remembering that it is the will
of Him who doeth all things well. |

Chesnee- RALPH B. FINLEY, 40, died
Saturday morning at his home. MR. FINLEY was a son of the late
TOM FINLEY and MRS. GENEVA BYARS.
Surviving in addition to his
mother are ; 2 brothers, LLOYD and SHUFORD of Chesnee; 6 sisters,
MRS. COLEN ALLEN, Harris, N.C., MRS. PAULINE CANNON, Spartanburg,
MRS. H.L. ALLEN, MRS. ANDY DAVIS, MRS. GUY LAMB, and MRS. RUTH
FINLEY, of Chesnee.
Funeral services will be
conducted Sunday at Liberty Methodist Church near Whitney by the
REVS. VERNON McABEE and HUBERT FINLEY. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
Pallbearers; FRANK KEETER, JOE
WILSON, ERNEST BURGESS, MONROE PRICE, CHARLIE HOLLIFIELD, TOM LAMB,
OTIS LAMB, WALTER DIXON.
The body will be at the home
till 2:pm, when it will be taken to the church. Blackwell Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements.

Landrum- JOHN HENRY FORD, 78, died at the home of his son, this morning
following a brief illness. He was a native of Mill Springs, N.C. and the
s/o the late LEWIS and MAGGIE FORD of Rutherford county, N.C.
He is survived by 5 sons, JESSIE, Campobello, BROADUS, Tryon, THOMAS,
Landrum, GROVER, Landrum, and JOHN FORD of Mill Springs; 2 daughters, MRS.
LISHER FOSTER, Mill Spring and MRS. ESTELLE WILKERSON, Tryon; 2 brothers,
RICHARD FORD, Gaffney and CHARLEY FORD, Rutherfordton and 2 sisters, MRS.
ANNIE HESTER, Spindale and MISS VIVIAN FORD of Marion.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Betheny Methodist church near
Forest City with the Rev. MALCOMB ROSS and the church pastor in charge.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

HUBERT HAMILTON FOSTER

HUBERT HAMILTON FOSTER, 58, of Poplar St., died at General Hospital Friday
night following a brief illness.
MR. FOSTER was connected with C.L. Cannon and Sons, was a WW 1 veteran and
member of the American Legion. He was a member and a deacon of the First
Bapt. Church .
Surviving are his wife, MRS. MAUDE M. FOSTER; one daughter, MRS. JOHN
KELLEY, Sptbg., 2 grandchildren; his father, J.R. FOSTER; one brother,
J.ROBERT FOSTER and one sister, MRS. LIONEL BRISCO, all of Mill Springs,
N.C.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at the First Bapt. church, burial
will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers; BILL CANNON, THAD CANNON, C.C. SANDERS, BERNARD
FOSTER, JOHN FOSTER and ROY GASH.

JOHN KING FOSTER

Dec. 28, 1939 - Funeral services for JOHN KING FOSTER, 81, who died Monday
in his home in White Stone, were conducted Tuesday by the Rev. H.A.
WHITTEN and the Rev. R.A. HUGHES. Interment was in the Lebanon cemetery.
His sons served as active pallbearers;
MR. FOSTER was born Nov. 15, 1858 and was married to MISS AURRIE ADELLA
MURPH on Nov. 4, 1883. His wife preceded him in death 10 years ago.
Survivors include the following children : MRS. S.M. CALDWELL, Rock Hill,
MRS. RUTH McELRATH, Warrenville, V.P. FOSTER, Cedar Spring, FRANK FOSTER,
EDGAR FOSTER and EUGENE FOSTER, all of Spartanburg and WELLS FOSTER of
White Stone and 10 grandchildren.
He was a farmer and lived all his life in the same community. For a period
of more than 50 years he was a member of the White Stone Methodist church. |

VERNON M. FOWLER
WOODRUFF, Nov. 15 - Vernon M. Fowler, 61, died today at the General
Hospital at Spartanburg.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert and L. V. Fowler; three
daughters, Mrs. Minnie Waters and Misses Pearl and Gertrude Fowler;
three brothers, Muer, Ernest and Edgar Fowler; two sisters, Mrs. Adeline
Gaines and Mrs. Sara Hellman.
Funeral rites will be held from Selma Baptist Church Wednesday
morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Easler. Pallbearers
will be Dan Pearson, Jim Reynolds, Leland Bennett, Ralph Rowne, Willie
Pearson and Bill Howard.

EMMA FRANKS

Nov. 18, 1898
MISS EMMA FRANKS, after a lingering illness of many months, died at her
home, 4 miles west of this city, on the 9th inst. The deceased was a most
gentle and amiable lady - loved and admired by all who knew her. She
leaves a widowed mother, MRS. NANCY FRANKS, several sisters and brothers
and a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn her death. Her
remains were interred at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery.
