Alexander did not live to
enjoy the inheritance of his brother, as he predeceased him. His
estate was probated by 25 April 1863.
The probate of Peter Carr
Wheeler provides valuable information about the other children of Jesse
and Jane Wheeler. Rachel Gains is listed as "widow of Robt Gains,
dec'd." It further states that "Rachel Gains, Mary Edwards, Martha
Johnston, William Wheeler, children of David Wheeler, dec'd names not
known, Andrew Wheeler and John Wheeler reside beyond the limits of this
state." The remaining legatees all resided in Spartanburg District,
South Carolina.
The absence of
Alexander confirms his demise, and the absence of Nancy implies that she
is also deceased without issue.
The above probate confirms
that only William and Margaret Henson and John and Elizabeth Staggs
remained in South Carolina by 1863. They were all laid to rest at
Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
