Confederate Veteran, Vol. XVII, July, 1909.
The SOUTH CAROLINA STATE REUNION of Veterans,
Sons, and Daughters at Chester was well attended. Chester was in gala attire,
and made every effort to make the meeting a success. Gen. Zimmerman Davis,
Commander of South Carolina, made a brief but earnest speech, which was
followed by the splendid address of Hon. George Bell Timmerman, Commander of
the Sons of Veterans. Miss Janie Ford, an attractive daughter of that State ,
representing the Daughters of the Confederacy, read a poem beautifully.
Senator Weston and Dr. Mitchel made eloquent appeals to the patriotism of
their State.
In the annual election of officers General
Zimmerman Davis was again chosen as Commander. Proposed changes in the pension
law were referred to a committee with authority to act.
The band from the battle ship Texas played
during the Reunion, and it was one of the attractions of the grand parade
which marked the closing of the Convention
